Fall Break: Paris to Vienna

A true taste of autumn


Europe in the fall is a beautiful place to be. The trees are changing and the weather is actually cooling down, contrary to fall in California. I kicked off my break in Paris, where my friends and I spent four nights soaking up everything Paris had to offer. We then met up with three other friends in Vienna for the latter three nights. Both so culturally different, yet incredible experiences.


I am learning a lot about myself during my travels and the importance of positivity and open-mindedness. While I travel from place to place I am realizing, the more I stay optimistic and accepting of cultural differences, the more I learn. I am so thankful for these opportunities I am experiencing. I hope to continue to learn and grow throughout the second half of my time abroad.

Paris in October is beautiful; it truly feels like autumn. Our trip consisted of strolls through the elegant Paris streets, experimenting with French cuisine, and sightseeing like a true tourist.


We went to both Musee d’Orsay and the Louvre while we were in Paris. Yes, we owed a visit to the Mona Lisa. And yes, we were not allowed to get even relatively close to her. I cannot decide which museum I enjoyed more. I learned so much at both. We also paid a visit to the Palace of Versailles and of course, the Eiffel Tower. All beautiful sights filled with so much history. Watching the Eiffel Tower twinkle at night was something I will never forget.

I tested my limits a bit with the French cuisine. I was pressured into trying escargot, which you can see on the left-hand side. Surprisingly, they were really delicious as long as I did not look at them while I ate them! I also cannot forget to give a shout out to the French crêpes. I looked forward to every morning, dreaming about what kind of crepe I was going to order for breakfast.


One of the highlights from the trip was when we went to a speakeasy, which are hidden bars that were created during the prohibition. The one we went to was underneath a restaurant. We had to walk downstairs through a meat locker to access the bar. The drinks and décor were very boujee and unique.

Vienna, Austria

Vienna was definitely an unexpected trip due to the fact it was not on my list of places to travel. Because of that, I was not expecting to love it as much as I did. Vienna felt very similar to Munich. The city, being quiet, clean, and peaceful, was a nice break from bustling Rome. The brisk air mixed with the colorful leaves made me feel grateful to be there. 


The city center felt enchanting as I saw horse-drawn carriages trotting down the streets and historic palaces around every corner. The streets were lit up with twinkling lights strung across every building.


My favorite meal of the weekend, although they were all delightful, was trying their traditional wiener-schnitzel. Wien, being the actual name for Vienna, is proud of their famous dish. Traditional wiener-schnitzel is fried veal served with roasted rosemary potatoes, and wow, it was delicious.


Of all the palaces I saw, I especially enjoyed my visit to the Schonbrunn Palace. It was so crazy to learn about the history of the palace, as the royal families did not live there that long ago. The gardens were beautiful with the falling leaves covering the paths.
